02   The different cleaning methods: suction or pressure

The suction method

Cleaners using the suction method use the pool’s filtration system as a source of power. They connect to the skimmer or the vacuum point and work without the need for any additional equipment.

The power of the pool’s pump enables them to move automatically and randomly, and to suction debris, which is then sent to the pump basket. This means the pump basket needs to be cleaned regularly. Backwashing the sand filter is also essential.

These cleaners are very easy to install and use and offer a good quality-price ratio.

The pressure method

Cleaners using the pressure method also use the pools filtration system as a source of power, but this method offers greater efficiency and precision. Instead of being connected to the suction vacuum point, the pressure cleaners are connected to a dedicated return line, or by converting the suction vacuum point into a pressure vacuum point (outlet). In this way, the skimmers stay active and retain all of their surface filtration capacity. The cleaners can work with or without a booster pump.

With booster pump:
The hydraulic pressure cleaners work off high water pressure supplied by an electric booster pump located near the filtration unit. The booster pump recovers the water from the filter and sends pressurised water to the pressure vacuum point, to power the cleaner. Booster pumps are usually installed by a professional swimming pool contractor.

Without booster pump:

The cleaner is connected directly to the pool’s outlet. No other equipment is required.

In either case, the cleaner moves randomly around the pool and suctions debris using a  principle known as the venturi effect, which is created inside the cleaner and converts the incoming water into a powerful suction current. This method ensures maximum efficiency in minimum time.

The pressure cleaners have a filter bag which collects the litter sucked up and so prevents the pump pre-filter from getting clogged.

Generally speaking, these cleaners are easy to use and offer an excellent performance-price ratio.
